    SILICON RELIC – E.B.A.N.I. Drones
    GH Records– GH 151 CD
CD Limited Edition 200 Copies Digipack
    Dark Ambient, Drone, Industrial

The UFO phenomenon shows a constant tendency to adapt itself to the technological imaginary of the historical period in which it occurs. From the first mechanical forms of the last century, we have progressively reached the current energetic and intangible manifestations, of which the E.B.A.N.I. can be considered the most spectacular and disturbing expression. With the term E.B.A.N.I. are defined a whole series of aerial phenomena, which present characteristics that can be compared in appearance to living beings, in form as well as in movements. Is this perhaps the final adaptation, in the middle of the information age, of a living occult reality that hides behind our technological dream, before its definitive revelation?

«E.B.A.N.I. Drones» is the sound transposition of these celestial apparitions, beyond any will of interpretation of the phenomenon or easy cataloging. A dreamlike and surreal journey between sidereal anxieties and apocalyptic suggestions, in the contemplation of these new angelic legions made of luminous tubular structures and floating liquid metal.

SILICON RELIC is a new Italian industrial drones / dark-ambient project, which aims to describe and portray in music the remains and parodies of the sacred and the spirit in the age of disenchantment. The group – composed of Moreno Padoan and Cristian Luise, active for years in the industrial / experimental scene with various monickers – wishes to return with this project to the origins of the genre, combining genuine aesthetic and sound research with a solid conceptual and philosophical approach.

    Label: CAVSAS ‎– CS004

    Country: France
    Released: 25 Feb 2022
Style: Black Metal, Dark Ambient, Doom Metal, Drone

Ab’bhau’s debut album was forged in fire in the year 2018 after mysterious live apparitions and rehearsal sessions. The aim behind this first exploration was void invocation, void materialization.

The project is formed by established musicians of the Spanish underground noise, experimental, and metal scene. Connections to bands and projects like Black Earth, Suspiral, Inhumankind, Phicus, Triple Zero, Gárgara, or Sudaria can be traced.

The ritualistic essence of this artistic incarnation is based upon the rupture of repetitive patterns through improvisation as a medium to convey abject forces into the shape of what the band has called ‘Black Metal Destruktion’, stemming Heideggerian terminology. A form that appears to disappear or to be registered, but impossible to reproduce.

Even though the recordings vary on the album formats, they are the same album, the same whole, the same essence… exhaled through three different forms of sonic manifestation. Artwork by Heresie Studio.

The Ever Sounding Sea Of Grief by Philippe Blache

« The ever sounding sea of grief » is a cathartic and spiritually uplifting musical journey. Partly abandonning the lyrical component which was central in previous releases of his musical project «Day Before Us» Philippe Blache introduces here a slight new stylistic turn. This album makes incursions within the world of avant gardism, noise ambient and modern classical minimalism with a subtle cinematic edge. It can be appreciated as a purging ritual mainly built around harrowing reverb piano key, blackened skies of droney textures, then majestic organ patterns within a foreboding sonic spectrum. Those lengthy tracks feature additional arrangements as spoken words. As for the last «Day Before Us» album to date the striking visual imagery is provided by forward-thinking artistic collaborator and multi-talented Natalie Ina. «The ever sounding sea of grief» is a thrilling and colossal poetical/musical drama of overwhelming expressive intensity.

    Lyrics from Anna Kingsford (1848-1888)

Reeds in the river! reeds in the river!
O deep in my heart like the reeds in the river,
My thoughts grow in darkness, far down out of sight,
And over my life passes shadow and light,
Like sunshine and cloud on the breast of the stream,
But I sit by the banks of my river and dream,
For day after day, they grow silent and strong, ––
The reeds of my Syrinx, the reeds of my song!
    ____________________________

Slowly athwart the grey empurpling heavens
The bearded evening clouds swept slowly by
With ghostly arms outstretched, and shadowy robes
Curling around them; one by one they passed
    In sad procession, solemnly and still;
A crowd of phantoms following to the tomb
    The fair departed Day.
    ______________________________

All the sweet odours of silence, that rise
Up from the world to the musical skies,
And the voice of the waters that swell and sink
Speaks through the distance, and dimly I think
Of that fathomless ocean of Time and Fate
Bearing us onward and on without cess
    Into the dark mysterious Never,
Spirit to spirit, the small and the great
    Into the Sea of Forgetfulness,
The sea that rolls and rolls for ever!

Portraits is a new series from Unexplained Sounds Group focusing on electronic and electro-acoustic music composers. Each release creates a ‘portrait’ of three musicians by showcasing representative pieces of their recent musical journeys, serving as a guide for further listening and a means of exploring their work. This first volume is dedicated to three Italian musicians: Gabriele Gasparotti, Daniele Ciullini, and Mario Lino Stancati. Gasparotti and Stancati are among the most talented emerging musicians on the Italian experimental scene, while Ciullini is a veteran of the post-industrial underground who, after a very long silence, returned to music in 2012.

    GABRIELE GASPAROTTI

Gabriele Gasparotti (05/09/1987) composes electroacoustic music on analog instruments. He is the creator of the project Extrema Ratio (music inspired by the script of Alberto Cavallone’s lost movie Maldoror – Il dio selvaggio) and of the artistic collective Gasparotti Muga Muchū Morphing Theater – a multimedia project that aims at the interaction between music and the performative arts and is deeply influenced by surrealism and esoterism. His video La nascita di Zelda v. 2.0 (Zelda’s Birth v. 2.0) was screened at the 76th Venice International Film Festival in the section Il futuro del corto d’autore (The Future of Art Shorts). He is the founder of the record label Il Dio Selvaggio and his latest album is Istantanee vol.1 (Il Dio Selvaggio, Dio Drone, Dornwald).

    DANIELE CIULLINI

Active since the 80s in the area of the tape-network with some self-productions and participations in compilations of labels and fanzines of the time, after a iatus lasting about thirty years, Daniele Ciullini returns to the music and live sets. His recent works were published by Luce Sia and Silentes. Unexplained Sounds Group presents some unreleased tracks made by using toy instruments, field recordings and automatic voices.

    MARIO LINO STANCATI

Mario Lino Stancati (Italy, 1981) graduated in «Disciplines of the Arts, Music and Theater». He is an actor, director, playwright, poet, musician and composer. Not chained to any individual musical genre (he crosses progressive ambient, concrete music and avant-garde composition) and motivated to explore any form of experimentation with music, he developed methodologies and expressive practices capable of merging both vocal performativity and guitar playing.

    REVIEW

    Vital Weekly→

The three-way compilation is a compilation form I actually like, especially if the three projects/musicians get the space a CD allows; well, twenty minutes each. Here we have three Italian composers, each granted four pieces. I had only heard of Danielle Ciullini before; he recently released a work after a long time of silence and first heard on releases by Trax (Vital Weekly 1254). There are short biographies on the cover of the CD, to pique your further interests. The CD starts with the quartet of pieces by Gabriele Gasparotti, the youngest of the three. He «composes electroacoustic music on analogue instruments». In his music drones play certainly a role, generated from mainly guitars, but also effects or keyboards and throughout there is quite some variation to be noted. The music is a bit dark, quite spacious, with a touch of cosmic music. Sometimes a bit too freaky, but that gives it also a free-spirited edge.
The next four pieces are by Mario Lino Stancati (1981), who is an actor, director, playwright, poet, musician and composer. I believe the guitar plays an important role, next to voices, but a fair share of the legwork here is done using electronic processing. It might be his work with theatre that prompted him to add this vocal stuff (not in all pieces), which, for me, adds a bit of a gothic edge to the music. Perhaps, so I thought, this is something of an Italian tradition, along the lines of Ain Soph (especially in ‘Magma Crecia’). His music certainly is touched by a darker force of a mytikal origin, as I am sure this should be spelt.
The final four are by Daniele Ciullini, knows for his work with Trax in the 80s. In his pieces he works with massive ambient passages, maybe derived from heavily processed field recordings, versus otherwise heavily treated acoustic sounds, reminiscent from the world of musique concrète. Curiously, his four pieces sound like one long collage of music, with the odd start and stop cues. Strictly personally speaking I was most fond of his work from these three, even when I enjoyed much of the others too. The way Ciullini worked with various musical interests I enjoyed a lot. (FdW)

Day Before Us – As My Spirit Wanders Free
Label: Gradual Hate Records – GH149
    Format: CD, Album
    Country: Spain
    Released: Jun 22, 2021
Style: Dark Ambient, Darkwave, Drone, Neofolk, Ambient

Prominent act from the post-industrial/minimal electroacoustic scene «Day Before Us» is back with a new significant album, casting elegant solitary hymns and shedding an unconventional gothic inspired mood. The instrumentals and conceptual background are approached and elaborated by Philippe Blache while the sound lyricist Agne Srebaliute takes over the vocal parts. «As my spirit wanders free » is a meticulously blended release which gives a large space to contemplative tones, to poignant melodic phrases and to a thick cloud of emotional meandering textures.

The message behind the album explores existential themes such as soul stirring fragility, blurred-fractured memories and the mystical nature world. «As my spirit wanders free» is a vast, sensient and windy atmospheric opus that directly takes on the emotions of the listener. This album marks the 10 years anniversary of the project. This special edition is accompanied by the unique photographic work of Natalie Ina that matches the musical signature in terms of sheer emotional intensity and stylistic landmark.

Day Before Us is an emotional, ethereal and dark ambient music project formed in 2011 by the piano trained player and composer Philippe Blache. Full length releases have been published by Rage in Eden, Twilight Records, OPN and GH Records. A palette of immersive electronic textures, slowly moving melancholic piano airs, industrial noises, lyrical themes, neoclassical arrangements and discreet experimentations characterize the compositional process and the stylistic inclination. Creative strength of the project comes from reflections on timelessness, memories of a bygone era, romantic spleen and spiritual narratives. Day Before Us occasionally gives live performances and works in the context of intermedia collaborations.

Sound magic, crystalline sparkles, and the omnipresence of the sacred … (Lux Atena) the new work by HIEMIS proposes an initiation, a transcendental journey through brilliant soundscapes. Coming soon spring 2021

Never had there been a collective experience of «the invisible» comparable to that of Martines de Pasqually and her disciples when they joined forces to research «La Chose» together.

Pasqually was one of the most enigmatic characters of the eighteenth century, manifesting himself at the beginning of him as a Freemason, soon creating his own initiatory organization, the Order of the Elus Cohens.

This Order was heir to mystical sects of antiquity and the Neo-Alexandrian period, with special influence on its ritual by occult masters of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Master and disciples professed a mystique of Reintegration to the condition of Man-God and was the forerunner of other currents within the initiatory world such as the Rectified Scottish Regime and various branches of the Martinist Orders.

Although until now those who investigated the invisible expected what they were going to see in it, calling angels or demons according to the forms of Christian iconography. Pasqually, however, stated that it was not known in advance what being would appear at the time of the evocation. This is how La Chose would emerge.

In the first sessions the new disciples admitted to participate in the works of the teacher saw how La Chose performed mysterious actions. They left there excited and terrified or drunk with pride and ambition. These appearances were produced by strange beings and of a different essence from that of terrestrial beings. These beings gave speeches and transmitted deep knowledge during rituals. Each disciple was summoned to reproduce, in his own way, the same phenomenon.

La Chose’s presence in the Operations Chamber could impress the disciple’s senses in different ways: he felt “goose bumps all over his body”, or he heard faint sounds; but, in general, «the manifestation was operated by vision», by the perception of sparkles and sparks. In order to perceive them, the Operator extinguished the candles and kept the flame of the only candelabrum that remained lit until the end of the ceremony.

The solemn Operations were to be carried out at exactly the same time by all the ordained and authorized Cohens. The Chambers of Operations where they officiated could be situated at a great distance from each other, for example, in Lyon, Paris and Bordeaux, but a perfect timing was absolutely necessary for him to act.

The Chosen Knights of Martines de Pasqually performed such sacred rites in the service of the highest Theurgy. Most of the prescriptions of the operative rituals were used from the most remote antiquity, astrology having an important role.

For the Elus Cohens, true faith is based on pre-natural facts and since they, due to the decline of the historical cycle, are no longer produced publicly, it is necessary to generate them in the Chamber of Operations through complex and strict ritual. Therefore, the Theurgic Operation is less an act of faith, of adoration, of devotion, than a high practice of Sacred Science.
