Sally Dige ‎– Holding On (Vinyl, LP)

Sally Dige ‎– Holding On (Vinyl, LP)

    Label: Avant! ‎– AV!050
    Format: Vinyl, LP, Album
    Country: Italy
    Released: 13 Sep 2017
Style: Synth-pop, Synthwave, Minimal, New Wave

Sally Dige is a multidisciplinary artist known for her darkly poetic yet highly danceable electro-pop songs, DIY stylistic videos, design and visual art. Sally‘s deep and commanding voice, coupled with her analogue-visual-processes and overlapping artistic mediums has formed an identity that oscillates between the edges of aggression and fragility, old and new. Holding On was created during the time of intense inner turmoil. Despite being stretched to her emotional limits, Sally did not let the weight of her circumstances break her, instead channeling all of her pain and fears into the production of a series of incredibly powerful songs. Stunningly, Sally used only her voice and a single synth to create this album. Even with so little gear, the songs are anything but minimal. Each song has a minimum of 100 tracks and, for some songs, 100 tracks for just the drum section alone. Every audible sound has 20 other sounds swimming beneath it. These are songs written for dance floors but are sung about loneliness, death and the meaninglessness of existence. Sally‘s work tows the line between a blissful innocence and a heavy darkness. Think Gina X flavored post punk-disco rubbing against Twitch-era Ministry‘s lost Sade collab or Enya on LSD after a break up.

    C77 professional Chrome Plus tape – silk-screened transparent blue shell – 3-panel J-card – in norelco case – lim. ed. of 100 hand-numbered copies.

About 14 years ago Marc P. Schaffer and Orpheo Weidelt-Baur from SOLITUDE FX met at weekends and started jamming around with their beloved synthesizers. On this first of two volumes in the “Synthesizer Session” series they merely used two Korg Poly-61 and a Roland TR-808, played almost everything by hand, drinking lots of beer, thus creating 9 magnificent instrumental neo-romantic synth-wave epics, highly representative of that strange but beautiful turn of the millennium. Included here are two tracks from a 2003 jam session (including the brilliant “Huginn and Muninn” which has been haunting us for more than a decade). File under: dreamy night-driving tunes.

    T.V. Sovietica – Maquetas Y Demos 1983-1984

    T.V. Sovietica – Maquetas Y Demos 1983-1984

    Label: Atemporal – AT-006
Format: Vinyl, LP, Album, Limited Edition, Remastered, Stereo
    Country: Spain
    Released: 2014
    Style: Minimal, Synth-pop

T.V. Sovietica was an exploratory sound project from Valencia (Spain) developed in 1983 in the postpunk era of the early 80’s which built on the work of “Neonada y Atentados”.
From these beginnings evolved  a brief, dark and unsettled trajectory based on sound effects inspired by electronic German music with influences from the artistic vanguard analogy (Satie, “Musique Concrete”  and minimalism) The darkest, most introspective postpunk, radicalising with its’ experimentation, moving towards “industrial”, “anti-music” styles.
The essence of its’ sound combines the use of guitars and electric bass with electronic instruments (Yamaha CS-15, Korg MS-10, Boss DR-55 , etc) , acoustic percussion, mechanical elements and vocals. Confronting frequencies elaborated from improvised riffs with vocal expression.
Of the same generation as bands such as Esplendor Geometrico and Aviador Dro.
The lost model, now recovered in this work demonstrates the beginnings of Spanish synthpop with “Contacto Telepatico”. The influence of New Wave in “La matanza de los bebes foca”, moving towards the conceptual project  “Islandia” to which the majority of the themes belong, “ Oxido en tus ojos” (1984) draws to a close a period of work for the band, probably in its’ most corrosive moment.

    D.Martinez (Guitarra, Voz, Yamaha CS-15)
P.Botella (Bajo electrico, Guitarra Melodica y Farfisa Compact)
    M.Alvarez (Korg MS-10, Boss DR-55 y Efectos Acusticos)

These Aussie brats, leaving behind their characteristic synth-punk sound, have, this time around, pull off a 12” that shows an improved sound full of groove with a marked funky accent and galvanised electro technique. The EP features four tracks that rescue the influences of Clock DVAand the danceable mood of Severed Heads, while at the same time blows away SPK at their funkiest, thus recovering the most hedonistic veneer of electro-industrial music. Multiple Man prove that anyone, from Uganda to Laponia, can dance to white noise, interferences, and those voices in your head.

This Berlin-based synthpunk cell rocks hard, leaving aside sound texture and other trifles. Inside their time vortex, the listener will find Back From the Grave wired with Ralph Records, both high on amphetamines in order to perform this time-warping leap in no time until losing the linear sense of narative, but nonetheless still keeping the rhythm and partying so wildly that it will blow your head off.” Elvis Von Doom
