The Dark Red Seed ‎– Stands With Death

The Dark Red Seed ‎– Stands With Death
Label: Prophecy Productions ‎– PRO 214 LP
    Format: Vinyl 12″ EP
    Country: Germany
    Released:14 Sep 2017
    Style: Neofolk

The Dark Red Seed is the musical outlet of Tosten Larson, guitarist for Seattle dark folk musician King Dude. A self-coined ‘metaphor for the heart’, The Dark Red Seed represents a direct reference to life – and death – itself. The duo, which also includes King Dude engineer Shawn Flemming, is now about to release its debut EP, “The Dark Red Seed Stands with Death”.

Described as ‘a study of death’, “The Dark Red Seed Stands with Death” is a dark, dusty discourse on the departure and ultimate dissolution of life; a powerful expression of absolute loss shaped through Larson’s haunting, Cash-like delivery. Each of the EP’s three songs represents various aspects of death (the death of America, death of culture and death of reality through technology and globalization), drawing on deep feelings and unanswered questions to create living, breathing sound.

“I know when death comes for me I will most likely run away with blind fear,” Larson says. “I’m sure when death comes, I will almost certainly cling to life until my dying breath and pray to someone else’s god for salvation. But in life, I try to approach death as the ultimate acceptance. Whatever death and a possible life thereafter means to each individual, death is the only place where we might find answers. For in life there are only questions. Death is the one thing that awaits us all.”

Raised in Kalispell, Montana and currently based in Portland, Oregon, Tosten Larson began his classical instruction as a young boy sitting at his grandmother’s piano. Firmly rooted in the traditions of American music, Larson’s sound is equally shaped by art rock such as Swans and Six Organs of Admittance, Eastern masters like Kayan Kalhor and Ravi Shankar, and hard rock staples such as Led Zeppelin and Neil Young. Though he wears his influences on his sleeve, his music attempts to defy category and carve its own path.

The Dark Red Seed’s first full-length album, “Becomes Awake”, is already in the pipeline and tentatively scheduled for a summer 2018 release. The record is described as a detailed concept album that can be thought of as an answer or sequel to “Stands with Death”.

    Style: Electro, Minimal, Darkwave

‘Beta Evers / Spatial Relation’, a six-track 12” E.P., that also features, Heinrich Mueller of Dopplereffekt. The six tracks contain the coldest of minimal synth and technoid darkness, underpinned by a melancholic sentiment. This is the third release by Spatial Relation on Peripheral Minimal, and the first by Beta Evers.

Brigitte Enzler aka Beta Evers, grew up with the New Wave and experimental electronics scenes in the late 70’s and early 80’s. In her teenage years she founded a girl-band and started her first record label at the age of 16, to independently release and distribute the music of her project. During the early 90’s Brigitte started to arrange gatherings / parties, (electronic music) for local underground clubs in her home city of Augsburg, Germany.

In the year 2000 she founded the electro collective Kommando 6, and in 2001 she decided to run a label again, under the same name, Kommando 6. Finally, in the same year, she started to compose and produce her own tracks independently. Besides her solo-project, Brigitte collaborates in a side-project with Dystronic called, Black Spider Clan, which began life in 2002. Furthermore she is involved in, Flying Bodies and Radikale Analog Fraktion. In 2006 she closed the Kommando 6 label after it had released 20 records. More recently she started 2 new labels called Bodyvolt and Venus Noir.

Married New York based couple, Lissette and Jacob Schoenly founded Spatial Relation several years ago, and have sporadically released classic technoid synthwave / minimal wave, akin to fellow US act, ‘Adult’ who are also a major influence. Their first full length LP has been critically acclaimed, and the three tracks herein continue their twisted electro sounds.

Sieben – Our Solitary Confinement ‎(2xLP, Album)

    Sieben – ‎Our Solitary Confinement
Label: Dark Vinyl Records ‎– DVLP09
Format: 2 × Vinyl, LP, Album
    Country: Germany
    Released: 03 Feb 2017
    Style: Neofolk

This record was recorded at Redroom Studio, Sheffield, England, during 2002. It was written, performed and produced by Matt Howden. The original CD (TRI 151) came out on the Trisol/Iceflower label.

This was the first Sieben album to be a solo endeavour, but was before the looping phase of my Sieben career. That would come next, with the release of Sex & Wildflowers. Songs on this album were inspired by, or written in conjunction with photographs by Danish photographer Kristine Haffgaard. We inspired each other. This record has been mastered for vinyl by Bobby Bachinger at MAG Studio, Germany. Sleeve design by Martin Bedford.

This vinyl edition runs to two records. All songs from Our Solitary Confinement are included, plus an unreleased work, The Sound Of His Horn. Written at the same time, The Sound Of His Horn was intended to be a book CD release through Tartarus Press. The idea was that it would accompany the book the music takes its name from, by author John William Wall (pen-name Sarban). For some reason this never quite happened. It is possibly one of my most ambient works – though has its scary moments, principally because it was written to accompany a spooky tale. The music to the Sound Of His Horn pinches and intertwines musical lines and beats from Our Solitary Confinement, Voyager (an album released under my own name that I was also working on at the time), and Hellfires (Redroom 002, released 2001). I’m often working on quite a few projects at the same time. With those that aren’t central to what I do, as with the Sound Of His Horn, I enjoy being free of ‘writing from fresh’, and will lift and re-use material. So strange to come back to these pieces I’ve never re-listened to, and hear echoes of Our Solitary Confinement peek through the soundscape.

Each Divine Spark was lovingly knitted and written, rehearsed and diced; recorded live, loud and looped in a beautiful space; layered delicately and slow-roasted at home over UA-Ds, tape saturation and warm delays; passed over the ears of people who appreciate and emit sonic sorcery; then sensitively mastered to preserve said sonic sorcery. The space in this record is the subtlest sound I have never made, but can lay claim to.

Anemone Tube / Post Scriptvm ‎– Litaniæ Mortuorum Discordantes (Vinyl, LP)
    Label: La Esencia ‎– LER015/2016
Format: Vinyl, LP, Limited Edition, Golden Vinyl
    Country: Spain
    Released: 19 Dec 2016
Style: Dark Ambient, Industrial, Abstract, Experimental

For lovers of soul-shredding funeral music built on dissonance / Triggering spiritual delight / Intended for church performance

Under the headline “Litaniæ Mortuorum Discordantes” Anemone Tube and Post Scriptvm present a collaborative album with a truly unique concept: Originally applied to a particular style of ancient ritual music, in the Classical era the term Litaniæ Mortuorum Discordantes attained a negative connotation and was used to criticize those compositions – which, instead of instilling listeners with the desired pious euphoria, incriminated them with a sense of dread, existential anxiety, feelings of
death and decay. Finding this aesthetic choice to be most appropriate for the present era, the two post-industrial projects attempted to create their own “Discordant Death Litanies” for the XXI century.

The idea is culled from a semi-fictional biography of Johann Sebastian Bach, written by a 19th century Russian author. In the chapter describing Bach‘s childhood and early education, his older brother – who was also his music teacher and mentor – dissuades him from composing those “Litaniæ Mortuorum Discordantes” as they dangerously steer the Christian liturgy into a “wrong” direction of primordial chaos. In reality Bach never dealt with such dark notions, but created the most versatile and accomplished musical glorifications of the Christian god ever composed.

Yet tempted by the imagination of real “Litaniæ Mortuorum Discordantes”, Anemone Tube and Post Scriptvm stage a linear, gradually unfolding “oratorio” which begins with layers of lush brass synths resounding a time and place enveloped in ancient mythical beauty. The pristine serenity, however, slowly deteriorates through the influx of anguish, social decay and profanity. Raw field recordings, throbbing electronics, metallic tremors, distant voices and chants portrait a life of numbness and confusion, where man – tormented by ignorance, ignoble desires and anger – has become a plaything of insane “Weltanschauungen” and the commercialization plague. In a world where spirituality is reduced to rituals of sadness, the prophetic – and confirmed – certitude that the end of civilization is close at hand prevails.
