“…The trees have grown dry and bare, as have I…”

On their third album, URZE DE LUME turn inwards for a soothing journey which illustrates not only departure, but also homecoming, meticulously setting to music memories imbued with both nostalgia and longing.

“As Árvores Estão Secas e Não Têm Folhas” is the second and final chapter of URZE DE LUME’s ode to Autumn, in a follow-up to the acclaimed “Vozes Na Neblina” EP released in early 2017.

Although predominantly focused on guitar-based pieces, the leading role in “As Árvores…” is often taken over by the rebec, a bowed stringed instrument whose fiddle-like timbre brings forth an archaic, medieval-like, character to the album’s instrumental canvas, which further expands on occasion to include wind instruments, discreet percussions and bagpipes. The intentionally minimalist aesthetics seem to match the beauty of bare trees to perfection, yet URZE DE LUME’s use of multiple field recordings allows the hues of autumn to embed deeper into the music. Now and then, they turn also to narrated poetry to lead us further into the recesses of remembrance, urging the embrace of loss as one welcomes back nighttime, the cold, and a sense of void for times bygone that the arrival of Autumn inevitably brings about. This is the season where days start to run increasingly shorter and quieter, much like the lives of those to whom URZE DE LUME dedicates this solemn work.

Bonds to both Nature and tradition are at the heart of the band’s rendition of Dark Folk, and both skillfully come together on this acoustic introspective incursion into life’s ever-looming solitude.

The Joy of Nature is a musical project from the Azores, navigating through folk, psychedelic and ambient music.
The Joy of Nature creates musical innerscapes, paints with music and sound.

Anitya is that which has no existence in the beginning and no existence in the end. Its nature is impermanence. The record was created in two different and very special periods of time and it musically unites both western and eastern sounds. The tracks contained are the musical expression of different kinds of dreams. It consists of folk, experimental, psychedelic and industrial elements, and even classical music but sounding, at various places, like ritual music. The structures of the tracks owe as much to classical as to psychedelic music.

The Joy Of Nature – The Empty Circle, Part I: Swirling Lands Of Disquiet And Catharsis

The Joy Of Nature – The Empty Circle, Part I: Swirling Lands Of Disquiet And Catharsis
    Label: Ahnstern ‎– Ahnstern31
    Format: CD
    Country: Austria
    Released: May 2008
    Style: Dark Ambient, Acoustic, Experimental

The Joy of Nature is a multimedia project from the Azores, with music as its main focus.
Musically, “The Joy of Nature” is like a serpent always renewing itself – never resting in one shape, changing the form but keeping the same essence.
“Swirling Lands of Disquiet and Catharsis” is the first part of a trilogy entitled “The Empty Circle”.
Each part of the trilogy has a correspondence with the three main hermetic-alchemical phases: Nigredo, Albedo and Rubedo and, at the same time and correspondingly, to individual experience, inheritance of our ancestors and, finally, the overcoming of a mere individual state of existence.
This first part corresponds to Nigredo.
The subtitle of this work – “A Theatre lost in The Vast Abyss of Starry Skies” came in a lucid dream in which appeared the idea that this world in which we live our day-to-day lives can be compared to a small theatre in a vast abyss of starry skies.
This album is about a world of disquiet, in which a catharsis should be done.
To gather the impurities, realize their nature and build something pure from there.

There are elements of Folk, Ambient, Psychedelic and Experimental music, mixed in a coherent way, creating a unique sound and a breathtaking atmosphere, predominantly acoustic and with dark tones.
