The Soil Bleeds Black – Quintessence Label: The Fossil Dungeon – FD0040 Format: CD, Album, Digipack Country: US Released: 2011 Style: Medieval
Long out-of-print, The Fossil Dungeon and Argentina’s Twilight Records have teamed-up to re-issue “Quintessence,” the fifth full-length album from THE SOILS BLEEDS BLACK lengthy discography of esoteric, folk-driven, traditionally inspired medieval music.
“Quintessence” consists of five neo-medieval folk songs, each based on the alchemical elements of earthe, air, fyre, water, and quintessence. This fifth album of theirs showcases the longest songs ever recorded by the band and accomplishes a sound unlike any of their previous musical efforts, while still maintaining their standard of medieval atmosphere. Considered their «neo-folk» album, this release is filled with rich lyrical intricacies and lush acoustic instrumentations. Two additional bonus tracks are included on this album.
For fans of DEAD CAN DANCE, MEDAEVAL BAEBES, QNTAL, ATARAXIA, ESTAMPIE, etc.

In Bolskan a conceptual work by Kazeria & Aphlar Label: Gradual Hate Records GH 129 CD Format: CD, EP, Limited Edition , Digifile Country: Spain Released: 2016 Style: Martial, Neoclassic, Dark Folk
Kazeria, the well known Martial / Neoclassical act from Argentina, presents its latest work: “In Bolskan”; an epic journey evoking the ancient past of northern Aragón, in the Kingdom of Spain. During a recent travel to that region, Kazeria conceived the album to express its impressions on archaic traditions and the great symbolic heritage found there.
The album was composed by the fruitful collaboration between Kazeria and Aphlar, a rustic and energetic neofolk act, also from Buenos Aires. The tracks deliver a sophisticated blend of ritual ambient; martial percussions (taken live from the traditional drummers of Huesca; the town once named Bolskan…) and a strong neofolk approach, due to Aphlar´s guitars and voice. These elements create an evocative atmosphere, dealing with pre-christian and medieval times.
To those familiar to the these styles and bands like Of The Wand and The Moon, Nebelung, Falkenstein, Raison D´etre, Apoptose or Ain Soph, they will find in “In Bolskan” a conceptual and very interesting album.

was formed in 1999, but the two founding members (Sörös Gergö – vocals, acoustic guitar, percussions, Kiss Balázs – acoustic and classical guitars) have played music together for more than ten years in various forms.
In 2004 Sörös Gergő has founded his own band, Larrnakh, since then Kiss Balázs has been the only official member of Cawatana, now he is responsible for all the music and (partially) the lyrics, while Sörös Gergő became a “constant guest musician”, who sings on recordings (and contributes also in the lyrics), and he is the live drummer and vocalist.
At the beginning on concerts and recordings they were helped by some guest musicians on keyboards, bass, percussions, but recently there has been a stable line up for concerts, containing Kiss Kornél on acoustic guitar and Kiss Ottó on bass.
Formerly the music of Cawatana balanced between tranquil, acoustic guitar-based neofolk and harsher snare drummings and other percussions, with keyboards playing an important role in both styles. Nowadays the harsher industrial parts seems to disappear from their music.

Hungarian apocalyptic folk band Cawatana returns to the roots with a special release. The purpose of the new CD is to collect the songs from (mostly long sold out) compilations, vinyls and split releases that have been written and published in the first 15 years of the band, into one album.
All songs have been re-recorded in 2016 (some of them have been slightly reworked), additionally a new (previously unreleased) version of an old song has been recorded for this release. 10 songs in the “classic Cawatana style”: acoustic guitar-based neofolk with martial industrial and neoclassical influences, with the classic lineup of the band including both founding members Kiss Balazs and Sörös Gergö. For all of those who miss the old sound of Cawatana.
4-panel digipak CD with 12-page booklet, containing all the lyrics and information about the songs.
Larrnakh – Now Will You Believe? Label: Steinklang Industries – SKD 27 Format: CD, Album, Digipak Country: Europe Released: 2010 Style: Industrial, Ambient, Experimental, Neofolk
Great NeoFolk album featuring (ex)members of CAWATANA, STURMAST and SCIVIAS! “Now will you believe?” is a brilliant mix of classical guitar-based NeoFolk with electronic elements, varied and assembled with droning Ritual/Dark-Ambient tracks. The mix of two completely different styles in music makes this album to a outstanding new “crossover”. Dark and sometimes frightening soundscapes with samples, trumpets and haunting drums are compiled with beautiful harps, piano, violin and narrating vocals, rounded by fine NeoClassical elements.
Label: Ahnstern – Ahnstern 45 Format: CD, Album Country: Austria Released: 20 May 2010 Style: Neofolk, Darkwave, Experimental, Folk, Religious
“MINNESANG” is an album of 21st century ritual music encased in a unique fusion of the most diverse and zeitgeist-capturing musical styles, from neofolk and post punk to practically future pop. All these facets of contemporary music blend seamlessly in the unparalleled sound of MOON FAR AWAY’s probably most polystylistic, yet internally deeply conceptual and person-centered album of the group. The theme of the album, the deep-rooted feminine archetypes in contemporary art, is embodied in the title, which identifies a genre of medieval knight lyrics. At the same time, most of the original Russian-language lyrics on the album are drenched with the trademark Pomor flavors, emphasizing the pride that the band’s has always taken in its cultural roots that extend deep into the epic traditions of the Russian North. All of this makes the term “pop album” that the band itself uses in reference to “MINNESANG” a pure art-provocation. MFA’s new album consists of 12 tracks, all of which may well become (and some of which have already become, thanks to the band’s concert performances and pieces recorded on international collection CDs) hits and anthems. “MINNESANG” is a puzzle, a rebus that took years to create and will take much more than a cursory listen to solve. It is a new milestone achieved by a cult group who already gave contemporary art scene a number of discoveries and revelations.
“Minnesang” was also released in Russia at the same time by SHADOWPLAY. the Ahnstern-version has partly different artwork, infos in latin letters and the last song is completely different to the Russian version.

Àrnica – Viejo Mundo Label: Percht Catalog#:Percht11 Format:CD, Digipak Style:Acoustic, Neofolk, Alpine Folk
The artist’s interests are deep rooted in the ancient Iberian culture and traditions. Their music is a mix of traditional Pyrenne Folk and heathen Battle and Hunting-songs. Their first fullength-album „Viejo Mundo“ is a tale narrated by an old man as his last legacy to a casual traveler. In a hut and near by fire the traveler will be the depositor of ancient knowledge about forgotten gods, wisdom of life, tradition and statements of war. All lyrics and singing is in spanish or catalan language. A wide range of instruments is used, on top of them accordion, guitars, drums and flutes. ÀRNICA creates wild and rural atmospheres, quite similar to their friends from STURMPERCHT, but just from the opposite part of the holy Alps.
