In January 1992, IKON entered the studio to record what was supposed tob e the band`s debut single „As Time Goes By“ b/w „Never Ending“. Over three days from 17 january, a total of 8 songs were recorded and the band was reasonably satisfied with the results. Shortly afterwards, an accident lead tot he partial erasure oft he drums for «As Time Goes By“, making it impossible to finish and also wiping the plans for it tob e the main single track. The remaining songs were mixed over the following weeks, but the band was not happy with the results overall, so the project was shelved.

By mid 1992, IKON decided to attempt to remix the tracks and select another single option, but this time encountered a new problem: the tape was beginning to oxidize, making it impossible to play. The band was faced with the prospect of being forced to use the initial unsatisfactory mixes.

In 2016 this original IKON session, known as «As Time Goes By“, was given one final facelift by repairing and cleaning up any tape issues, and presenting the songs in a more natural light. It was decided that no more songs would be added to CD1, not to detract from IKON’s studio debut.

CD2 contains the complete January 1st Arthouse live show, which has never been released in full. This show was recorded within a couple of weeks of the Frontline session, and is a a fitting addition.

Although many of these tracks have been mixed on numerous occasions over the years, and feature on various CD’S, the session known as ‘As Time Goes By’, the original IKON studio session, was given one final facelift in 2016, repairing and cleaning up any tape issues, and presenting the songs in a more natural light. HONORIS III (Tribute To Bauhaus)

Various – HONORIS III (Tribute To Bauhaus)
Label: Unknown Pleasures Records – UPRGOLD022
    Format: CD, Limited Edition
    Country: France
    Released: 14 May 2022
    Style: Goth Rock

After paying tribute to the musical work of Death In June and then to that of The Sisters Of Mercy, the third part of our HONORIS Tribute series is this time dedicated to the legendary British band BAUHAUS!
Pioneers of post-punk and the goth-wave despite themselves. Haunted by the tutelary shadow of David Bowie and Brian Eno, truly post-punk with a touch of glam, lovers of German expressionism and European symbolism, the sound of Bauhaus knew how to combine dub basses, and acid guitars, sepulchral voices and hypnotic rhythms. Here is the first excerpt from our compilation planned in CD, vinyl, tape and book format on May 21, 2022

Chiron – The Sun Goes Down

Chiron – The Sun Goes Down
Label: Dark Vinyl Records ‎– DV97
    Format: CD, Album, Limited Edition
    Country: Germany
    Released: 14 Jan 2022
    Style: Darkwave

After 7 years of silence, the Australian Darkwave/ PostPunk act CHIRON returns with a new album. Chiron is the brainchild of ex-IKON vocalist Michael Aliani, supported by Dino Molinaro (IKON) on bass and cello. In addition, Leanne Coe can be heard on saxophone for the first time.
Influenced by groups like Joy Division and the early New Order, Michael left IKON in 1997 and started his project «Chiron».
“The Sun goes Down” is certainly Chiron’s darkest and best release yet. Themes like isolation, loneliness and loss are the focus.
Of course, typical PostPunk and Joy Division elements are included, but especially the dark tracks with saxophone reflect the range and development of CHIRON.
The album also features a Remix by JM Lederman (The Weathermen, Ghost & Writer…)

    Tracklist::
    1.Surrender 5:06 / 2.Rage 1:39 / 3. Sadly 3:32 / 4. Darker Days 4:25 / 5. Let Us Beginn 3:12 / 6. Deep Inside 4:52 / 7. Frantic 3:50 / 8. Forsaken 4:56 / 9. Decline 4:46 / 10. That Feeling 2:50 / 11. Torn 3:49 / 12. Darker Days (Jean Marc Ledderman – Remix) 4:18

    BLACK Magazin, Review January 2022:
(Marco Fiebag)

    Miazma ‎– Miazma

    Label: Dark Vinyl Records
    Format: CD, Album
    Country: Germany
    Released: 19 Jan 2018
    Style: Gothic Rock

Miazma has, in the present form, existed since the fall of ’99. It originally started out back in early ’97 as a techno duo consisting of Kristian Olofsson and Tomas Tornevall, but due to the difference in musical influences Tomas left the project to pursue a solo career.

Miazma has since the split evolved towards a darker style of music but remnance of the techno from which Miazma was based can still be heard in many of the songs…

The first example of this new sound was made available with the release of ”Judgement Day” in June 2001. It featured 7 tracks and, at the time, a fresh blend of electro-industrial metal. In December of 2002 ”17” was released. This was somewhat of a step away from the harder electrometal. In August 2004 ”Shattered” picked up where ”Judgement Day” left off. Miazma was back again with 9 heavy tracks where the style from the 2001 release was taken to another level.

In September 2007 ”Dollar Rush” was released, featuring 13 tracks continuing the always ongoing evolution of Miazma…

August 2011, after four years of silence and ten years after the very first release Miazmas fifth album is made available, and for the first time, this album is also available for purchase in addition to being free. This time around there is 11 tracks taking the sound from ”Dollar Rush” another step forward.

Scarlet Leaves – Deep Sad Frustration

    Sello: Wave Records
Formato: CD, Album, Limited Edition, Cd Digipack
    País: Brazil
    Fecha: 2015
Estilo: Goth Rock, Ethereal, Darkwave, Shoegaze

Unlike “Outlining States of Mind”, that brought more lyric and sentimental lines, in this new album we explore another side of Scarlet Leaves. “Deep Sad Frustration” still keeps the idea of bringing songs and lyrics with abstract and elaborated contents.
On this album, the instrumental brings more orchestrated lines and highlights the violas, cellos and violins.

Some percussions are more intense. The guitars are still wandering according to every sound and the synths and other programming are more profound and present than the first album.
The voice is still soft but not so lyrical. We brought a more mature and secure voice for this material, showing a musical development.

In some songs we bring real facts of life, such as in “The Misfortune” involving a limited human being, unable to live in their own freedom.
In “Luxuriae”, we try to be poetic in relation to one of the seven deadly sins, Lust.
“Alma” once was called “Believe”, because this song talks about believing, going crazy and imagination.

On the other hand, “Dust and Silence” travels in hope and confusion, reflected in tears through pain.

The idea behind “Godforsaken” was bringing a story through the eyes of an angel abandoned by God.

In “Persephone Garden” we fled a bit from the idea of the other songs to tell our version of the story of Persephone and Hades, characters in Greek mythology.
And finally “Misth” is mysterious as always. It’s up to the listeners to interpret what it means to them.

Soror Dolorosa – Apollo (Artbook 3CD+DVD)

Soror Dolorosa – Apollo (Artbook 3CD+DVD)
Prophecy Productions ‎– PRO 183 LU
    Format: Artbook 3CD + DVD
    Country: Germany
    Released: 14 Sep 2017
    Style: Goth Rock, Post Punk

Paris-based Soror Dolorosa creates raw and hungry gothic rock inspired by post-punk, death rock and cold wave. French for ‘Sister Pain’, Soror Dolorosa was formed in 2001 by vocalist Andy Julia. Taking its name from the novel “Bruges-la-morte” by Flemish symbolist writer Georges Rodenbach, Soror Dolorosa channels its inspiration’s strong undercurrents of passion, nostalgia and mourning, transferring those powerful emotional states into its music and live performances. These signature elements of the group’s sonic formula are heard in its muscular songs, jangling guitars, overdriven bass lines, driving rhythms and Julia’s distinctive, dramatic vocal style.

Four years in the making, “Apollo” is Soror Dolorosa’s crowning achievement; a bombastic dystopian world view encapsulated in dark popcraft. Melodic and memorable, the album shines a light on both stunning beauty and haunting sadness with Julia’s foreboding, prophet of doom baritone soaring on down a long and lonesome highway full of baroque, exquisite anguish. The four sides of the double LP are presented like the passing of the four seasons, creating an audio life cycle. With Soror Dolorosa, everything starts and ends within this ancestral conception.

“Travels were the key inspiration for the songs on ‘Apollo’,” Julia says. A renowned editorial photographer in Paris’ elite fashion industry, the frontman is also an exhibited artist and published author who travels the globe. “Passing through plains, mountains, cities, forests and deserts; all of these sensations, all of these smells are remembered and represented within the songs simple melodies and die hard grooves.”

Long associated with acts such as Alcest, Les Discrets and Lantlôs, it makes perfect sense for Prophecy to welcome Julia and Soror Dolorosa to its family of artists. Long compared to standard-bearers such as Fields of the Nephilim, The Sisters of Mercy, Joy Division and Bauhaus, it too makes sense that Soror Dolorosa continues to grow its sound and vision; and with “Apollo”, they have taken that very next step. For the band, “Apollo” isn’t just a new album, it’s a spiritual quest.

Dedicated in memory of Rozz Williams : voice of all sorrows and shattering truths, the dreamchild whosewounds spit poetry. (G.D.)

Limited re-print of 450 copies of this classic album from 1995.
Deleted for more than 10 years, now re-released in the re-mastered version of 2002, with 1 Bonustrack (“Manic Depression II”), previously available on Vinyl only.

Considered to be one of the founding forefathers of the Gothic Movement ROZZ WILLIAMS had in fact made a wide variety of stylistic musical moves throughout his impressive career until he died in 1998.
Emerging from the wreckage of CHRISTIAN DEATH, he went on to form industrial pioneers PREMATURE EJACULATION and the more conventionally gothic SHADOW PROJECT.
GITANE DEMONE joined Christian Death with Rozz Williams from 1983-1989 and went from that time her own way with different solo projects.
DREAM HOME HEARTACHE is by far the most impressive work by Gitane Demone and Rozz Williams.
Feeling that their past work – particularly with Christian Death – has bound them in gothic
    straight-jacket,
GITANE and ROZZ felt the need to expand that time.
The result was “Dream Home Heartache”, a breathtaking album with melancholy ballads, piano and a very smooth & jazzy atmosphere.
    Produced by Ken Thomas.
