A legendary sound collaboration formed of two lengthy pieces. The first track features Andrew Chalk (Mirror, Ora, Ferial Confine) gently reworking the sound materials of Ralf Wehowsky (P16.D4). A hypnotic, slowly-evolving drone with waves of mysterious sounds, static and glitches. The second piece, on the other hand, finds Ralf Wehowsky composing a frenzied journey into otherworldly realms using sound material from Andrew Chalk and Eric Lanzillotta (Eye Music). These pieces reflect a sound unique from the work of any of the three individual participants, but clearly related. Subtle, but full of detail for the willing listener. Z’EV completes an alchemical exploration of Concord and Dissonance that began with the cosmological equations of Sum Things and then clasped the elemental quintet of air, water, fire, earth and spirit in A Handful of Elements. Now, with Eleven Mirrors to the Light, Z’EV plays with the intersection of light and dark, catching waves of luminescence between prisms and mirrors that fragments particles into shimmering washes of sound. A new ritual from this long running doom/drone/ambient collective, offering up modern manifestations of ancient energies, channelled into smouldering swathes of ceremonial hypnosis and explosive gouts of blood-red radiance. Extinction is an extended ceremonial rite conducted below ground at the Wisp House (R.I.P.). A song suite of psychedelic devotionals assembled from reverb drenched industrial drones, billowing clouds of metallic throb, and churning, rhythmic bombast. Fields of ghostly incantations suspended in the ether, draped over metallic murmurs and moaning melancholia. The low end rumble of monk-like chants beneath the soft tangle of keening lamentation. A slowly evolving sensory sacrament, tense and harrowing, punctuated by dense dramatic swells and aching, mournful mantras.

In the name of Ulex, in loving memory of John, here comes Vhril! Vhril began life as Ulex Xane’s (Streicher, Zero Cabal fame) own solo project in 1991. He and John Murphy (rip) had been friends since the early 1980’s and had long wanted to do some duo recordings together contributing to each other’s projects on several occasions and playing live together. John became interested in the Vhril concept when Ulex had told him about its occult associations exploring Thulean esoteric paths and Vril energies in a ritual setting. Together they would record material during extended sessions/meditations and assemble it into specific tracks later: John often brought tapes of material he’d recorded elsewhere to be used as a basis to add other sounds in Ulex’s studio. Later on when John went up to Sydney again he took the Vhril idea with him and morphed it into his Shining Vril project (but that’s another story, folks). In the vein of Ain Soph or Zero Kama, the present “Vortex Psysynthesis” record, originally released via Zero Cabal in 1992 as a limited tape, commemorates the dawn of early sparse and minimal ritual style music, using John’s tapes, bells and percussion and Ulex’s natural recordings, clay percussion and electronics. Enter the Janus’ psychedelic world of the two twisted minds to be immersed by ever-evolving Vhril sun that never rises.

Hypnoz is a project of Dmitry Zubov, a musician from Moscow suburb Fryazino, the town that endowed the lovers of post-industrial music with such names as Hum and Staruha Mha. His first composition was recorded in 1993, and during its existence Hypnoz has released one CD on the Moscow label Insofar Vapour Bulk, which gathered tracks from different periods, a couple of very limited CD-Rs, and participated on the compilation “Iznutri” by the Ewers Tonkunst label with a fragment of a composition from this album. Aside from Hypnoz Dmitry plays in several other projects: Zuboff Sex Shop (post-punk / new-wave), Circle Of Iron Tape (harsh noise), BRZB (electronics, with Alexey Borisov), etc.
The basis of most of the tracks for “Breath of Earth” was recorded by Dmitry together with Evgeny Voronovsky (Cisfinitum) during their joint night psychedelic sessions, and this is evidently felt in their mood. Stylistically this can be called tranquil electronic ambient with a remarkable experimental touch – but who thinks about it while recording? Slowly twisting sound helixes, drawing inside the astral subspaces, pulsating rhythms, cosmic sounds of old analogue synthesizers, – all this produces an appropriate effect on the listener’s mind, and there’s nothing more to demand from music.

Eight hasteless compositions of psychedelic drone ambient combine a light atmosphere with deep multilayerness, crystal clear sound transparency with mild and sometimes uneasy melodies. Soft organic tracks full of plangent drones, noises and natural recordings neighbor with dense and saturated hymns to Hindu goddess Kali. The album is closed by a beautiful lyrical composition reminding us that the best way to overcome ignorance and realize unity is Love.

Jarl has a long discography behind him with more than 15 releases since his solo project started in the early years of the millenia. Describing his music as unbalanced, turbulent, withdrawn electronics that focus on isolation he’s made an impact on the electronic scene defining an own explicit sound.
“Amygdala Colours – Hemisphere Rotation” is the second album on Reverse Alignment and follows the critically acclaimed “Case 1959 – Dyatlov”. But where previous album explored the external mysteries of Dyatlov 1959 Jarl take us unto an internal trip through the structures and events of the cognitive mind with a main focus on the Amygdala, where the processing of memory, decision-making, and emotional reactions occur.
This album is built with layers of sound which slowely gets audible and disappears psychedelically. A variation of electronic and acoustic treatments has been used and the whole album is a mastodon track passing 50 minutes. As usual, the listener gets a mixture of drone, ambient and industrial that are molded perfectly into “that” typical Jarl-ish sound that sure wont dissapoint. Accompanied with the musical expression comes astonishing work from Karolina Urbaniak who designed the cover. It is as if you could touch the music.
