El rey Pescador es el Guardián del Grial, y se lo llama así por que el segundo guardián, Bron, alimentó a sus seguidores con un sólo pescado que sacó del Grial, emulando la ocasión en que Cristo alimentó a cinco mil personas con cinco panes dos peces.Habiendo sufrido una herida incurable, el rey se mantiene en estado de vida suspendida, y la tierra que rodea su castillo queda estéril. Tras el personaje del rey herido, se adivina el de Cristo, e incluso se afirma que la herida se infligió con la lanza de Longino, el soldado romano que atravesó el costado de Cristo.
